Fire Maclean. Get Trotz.

Easy solution.

I think after the season we had in NJ that Lou looks to add a star forward whether it be Spezza or someone else but my guess is the older player with the back issues will go for cheaper then the Kanes of the world but again this is something Lou would have to work out cause I don't see how he grabs much without giving up more then you will be getting back which of course is foolish.

A trade for Spezza would start with Larsson and a first.

If we do trade Spezza, I really hope it's to the west so we don't have to see him for 6+ games every season.

Travis Yost: Spezza Trade; Hemsky Future; MacLean?
- Travis Yost

Hemsky could do that on any half-decent team I'd bet.

He might have scored at that rate had he played on Nuge's wing this year. He might have scored at least at a 50 point pace all year if he had even had Gagner/Arcobello at centre.

He's an excellent player that the Oilers only got rid of because there was no way he was going to re-sign into a situation that misused him so badly.

I could see the Oilers being into Spezza, but it would have to be for the right price. After all, he's like a grown up Nuge. An upgrade on Gagner to be sure, but the attitude around the Oilogosphere is that we need a drastically different look for our 2C (Hanzal, so hot right now). I don't know that I necessarily agree with it - good players play well, so getting those is priority #1 - but unless the price was very favourable - A Melnyk moneyball move - than I don't see it happening.

This year's first? Yeah ok, probably, it's only 30th overall.

Not really sure why NJ would want Spezza, though. Seems like the wrong step to take for a middling, ageing team.

Trotz would suck the life out of our offense. I think we need to fire one or both of the assistants, and bring Richardson on board as an assistant next year. He's earned it, and he can help settle things on the back end. Maclean deserves and will get another shot.

wow, could actually be first?? [EDIT - nertz, I took too long typing]

I'll call my shot now and stick with it for the summer ....

MacLean will be back
Spezza will be back
Hemsky will be signed
Lazar will start in the AHL

PM did not turn into a total goof after being the runner up to and the Jack Adams winner. His team underperformed after overperforming the year previous. Spezza and Karlsson have shown that they close to being 100% healthy and while they have been suspect defensively this year, they also see the results...

Unless Ottawa wants to take a step back in the reuild/retool, Spezza needs to return. Reagrdless of your opinion as to who got the 1LC minutes, both benefitted from the other being in the line-up. If Spezza was gone, the other teams could just line up against Turris and be done with us. Zbad is too inexperienced to be a true 2LC right now - he could really benefit from being a #3 and filling in as a #2 as an injury replacement. The absolute only way Spezza should be traded is ig they get a young stud defenseman in return - unless Murray totallu fleeces someone, I dont see this happening.

If Spezza is extended Hemsky will be back. The doubt around that preface is why he is not committing to being back ... no Spezza, no Hemsky.

Not sure if the West's reputation has been exaggerated, but I'm not so sure Spezza would have as much value out here as he does down East.

I think, if I had to bet on each outcome, I'd go

MacLean stays..
Spezza stays by virtue of the lack of return Ottawa's looking for..
Hemsky, ugh. I think he might be off.

Someone mentioned this yesterday:

To VAN: Spezza, Cowen
To OTT: Kesler, Edler

I think we may need to sweeten that pot a little bit, but it's possible.

Try and resign Hemsky, resign Ryan, buy out Greening, let Michalek and Gryba walk and maybe try to add one more experienced piece to the defense puzzle.

I'd roll with these to start the season:

Hemsky - Kesler - Stone
MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Lazar
Condra - Smith - Neil

Karlsson - Edler
Methot - X
Ceci - Weircioch
Phillips - Gryba

Maclean or Spezza seems to be the scenario floating out there right now.

Fair, but disappointing. I've negotiated a new offer with my people, and I put forth this proposal:

Yakupov and your first for Spezza, Weircioch, and third.

I would take that goal and move. There's every evidence that Edler just had some rotten bounces this year (on-ice shooting percentage below 4% while leading the team in Corsi).

How in the world do you lead a team in Corsi while simultaneously having the worst +/- in the league? That's a one in a million occurrence!
